John Schutz is the owner of Marathon Air. He is basically a one man wizard when it comes to ice machines & all forms of refrigeration equipment.
John graduated from the University in Minnesota with a business degree, in 1985. Then he pretty much immediately became a partial owner of a Dairy Queen restaurant. So he understands the importance of reliable and cost-effective ice machine and refrigeration repair.
At the same time, starting in 1991, he also opened and ran a restaurant supply store in Apopka for many years called JPs Restaurant Supply (now operating as International Restaurant Distributors, in Apopka). He, his father & brother sold restaurant equipment and supplies to many restaurants, both locally and across the country.
As part of that business, John sold and installed many complete restaurant refrigeration packages, from the design on paper to the opening day of many restaurants. During that work, John became familiar with all makes and models of ice machines, their peculiar problems, and best solutions. John’s family eventually took over the restaurant supply business, at the same time that John became a licensed HVAC contractor. Then John transitioned to the service side of the ice machine and refrigeration (and HVAC) business. So John knows how to maintain, repair and install all types of ice machines, refrigeration equipment, and commercial air conditioning units. Most of his customers over many years have been other businesses of all sizes.

John is the type of guy who really wants to serve his customers well. He really is never satisfied with himself until his customers are happy. He is obsessive about details. As a result, he goes beyond the call of duty and strives to over-deliver on every job. He is also truly one of the nicest, most humble guys you will ever meet. His customers like him. John is the reason that our phone most often rings with a regular customer on the other end of the line, hoping that they can reach John.
History of Serving Restaurant Owners and Managers
Marathon Air has many longstanding loyal customers, many of them spanning back two decades as they knew John when he sold restaurant equipment. To say we know restaurant equipment and ice machine repair is an understatement. Also, if you call us, John will repair your equipment himself. This amounts to a LOT of work for John, an extremely busy guy, because 90% of our customers are businesses. He understands the demands of businesses and especially restaurants, as a small business owner catering to restaurants (and owning and managing a restaurant himself) for over 20 years.
As far as ice machine & refrigeration repair, John’s technical skills have evolved into true mastery. However, we do not service home ice machines because the cost vs. benefit of the repair wouldn’t exist for the homeowner.
